Monday was the 74th birthday of former New York mayor and current Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, and the New York Yankees decided to celebrate by shouting him out on the videoboard during their game against the Astros

But when the Yankee Stadium fans heard “The New York Yankees wish a very happy birthday to Mayor Giuliani,” they responded as New Yorkers often do: with a loud and passionate chorus of boos.

Giuliani got the heaviest boos Yankee Stadium has heard since Giancarlo Stanton’s most recent. strikeout (*rimshot*).

Now, we didn’t get a chance to ask thousands of fans at Yankee Stadium why they were booing the once-beloved mayor of New York, so we can’t say for sure. But maaaaaybe, it has something to do with Giuliani endorsing Trump during the 2016 election, speaking at the Republican National Convention, advising Trump on the president’s travel ban (which was later struck down in court), joining Trump’s legal team, attempting to undermine Robert Mueller’s investigation and taking the lead in defending Trump against the claim that he paid off an adult-film actress to keep quiet about their affair.

Just a hunch.
