The classic Wide World of Sports intro video features iconic broadcaster Jim McKay saying the immortal words that showcase the very essence of sports, “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”

University of Kentucky basketball fans got to experience both extremes of those emotions within just a few seconds of each other on Sunday afternoon.

Fan reaction videos to big sporting events are everywhere on social media and YouTube but I don’t think I’ve ever seen any that capture quite what it means to be a sports fan like these showcasing Kentucky fans reacting to the final seconds of their Elite 8 game against North Carolina.

Malik Monk brought Big Blue Nation to their feet by hitting a game-tying three-pointer in the closing seconds, only to be one-upped by Luke Maye’s game-winner just before time expired that brought them to their knees.

What’s amazing about these videos is that the “ooooohhhhh”noise when Maye hits the game-winner for the Tar Heels makes the same exact sound at both places.

On the bright side, at least these fans got to see the end of the game unlike others around the country that were at the mercy of their local news’ weather department. And at least nothing of note was set on fire.
