White House press briefings have become must-see events due to the unpredictable nature of spokesman Sean Spicer. However, fresh off the news that the United States dropped one of the largest conventional bombs in history on an Islamic State compound earlier in the day, the mood in the room was understandably serious.

That is until Richard Latendresse, a White House correspondent for TVA (Canada’s largest private French-language TV network), decided to ask about Donald Trump’s rooting interests in the NHL playoffs.

Is Trump pulling for the New York Rangers or the Washington Capitals?

Latendresse’s question would have been fine on a slow news day, but considering the topics of bombing and war aren’t exactly light ones, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Spicer brushed off the question. Spicer responded that the topic hasn’t come up in the White House, but he could have easily blown up about how absurd and out of place the question was given the context of the day.

For what it’s worth, the reporter later realized his mistake.

So, out of pure curiosity, which team would Trump root for? He’s been seen at plenty of Rangers games at Madison Square Garden over the years, but would he adopt a new team now that he’s spending more time in Washington?

That question might be appropriate for a blog, but it’s probably not one which should be asked to the White House press secretary.
