A man from Auckland, New Zealand, has quit his job in order to catch Pokémon full time.

Tom Currie, who worked as a barista and bartender at a restaurant on the Hibiscus Coast, decided that catching all the Pokémon on Pokémon Go was more important than earning a living. Can you really blame him?

Currie told BBC that he’s going to lean on the help of friends and family:

He says he’s relying on friends and family to help out but admits his parents are “a little bit baffled”.

“When I resigned, I didn’t tell my manager I was going out into the world to hunt Pokemon,” he told Newsbeat.

“But after my story got picked up I gave him a courtesy call to update him just in case the media contacted him.

“I got an absolutely lovely response, ‘Good on you Tom. It is really funny. I hope everything is OK. Have fun for your Pokemon trip.’

“My dad sent through a text message saying he always knew I would be famous.”

Tom seems to be off to a good start in catching his Pokémon. He told BBC he’s caught 91 of the 151 Pokémon to catch in the game.

Currie told BBC that he enjoys the traveling he does while playing the game, as well as all of the people he was been meeting. He added that he’s gotten global support, and other Pokémon trainers have wished him luck.

He ultimately plans to go back to work once his trip is over. Which is probably a good idea.
