Here’s a reboot with potential. Hollywood spinoffs or reboots can be tiring as existing properties are rehashed frequently so studios can make money off of well-known IPs. The latest film to get a modern reboot is Ocean’s Eleven. An all-female version of the popular heist film has been rumored for months.

On Wednesday, the high-profile stars who will be appearing were revealed.

According to Variety‘s Justin Kroll, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Nora Lum (aka Awkwafina) will star in Ocean’s Eight, directed by The Hunger Games’ Gary Ross.

It’s quite the talented ensemble. The diverse cast features multiple Academy Award winners, a handful of versatile dramatic and comedic actors and two talented music artists. Without even shooting a scene, the cast already looks like a winner.

Ross told Slashfilm that Ocean’s Eight will feature a similar tone to Ocean’s Eleven. He admitted the film got the blessing off director Steven Soderbergh.

“It’s a pretty similar tone. You know, Steven Soderbergh and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t. I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t,” he said. “This is very much an extension and a continuation.”

There’s tons of potential in Ocean’s Eight. While Ocean’s Eleven is a fun heist film, it’s a remake, and isn’t necessarily a classic, so there’s much to be improved upon. With a star-studded cast and a solid director, I’d wager this new version is going to be a lot of fun. No release date for Ocean’s Eight has been announced.
