The first game of the American League Championship Series went very well indeed for the New York Yankees. On the road in Houston, the Yankees came out with a 7-0 Game 1 win. Six innings of one-hit ball from Masahiro Tanaka helped with that, but a three-for-five, five RBI-showing from 22-year-old second baseman Gleyber Torres was perhaps even more crucial. That started in the top of the fourth, when Torres doubled to drive in DJ LeMahieu for the game’s first run:

Then, in the sixth, Torres hit a solo home run, his second of the postseason. That puts him in impressive company:

And then in the seventh, Torres hit the two-run single seen above (he advanced to second off a throwing error by Astros’ center fielder George Springer), which made him the youngest Yankees’ player ever to drive in five runs in a single postseason game:

The Yankees also got solo home runs from Giancarlo Stanton and Gio Urshela, and they won this one going away. We’ll see how they do in Game 2 in Houston tomorrow night.
