Arik Armstead recently became a free agent after nearly ten years with the San Francisco 49ers. The surprising move put one of the most accomplished defensive linemen on the market. Armstead’s next team is also a bit of a surprise!

The Jacksonville Jaguars will sign the free agent Armstead to a three-year deal. According to reporter Jordan Schultz, the contract is worth up to $51 million.

“Free agent DL Arik Armstead is signing a 3-year, $51M contract with the Jaguars,” Schultz posted. Schultz emerged with the news on X, the website formerly known a Twitter.

Armstead joins the Jaguars following nine years with the Niners. San Francisco drafted him 17th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. Since then, he racked up 116 games with the teams including several playoff appearances. He’s racked up 33.5 sacks, 177 solo tackles, and three forced fumbles.

Armstead accumulated 10.0 sacks in the 2019 season when the Niners made Super Bowl LIV.

He’ll join a Jaguars team that’s looking to bounce back following a disappointing 2023 season. The Jags conceded the division to the Houston Texans, who appear to be poised for a breakout. They’ve made some great signings over the past few days and won the AFC South last season. So, we’ll see if the Jags can come back and if Arik Armstead will be part of that ascent.
