The Atlanta Braves will be without a key piece to the puzzle for the remainder of the 2024 MLB season.

Atlanta will have to go the distance without right-hander Spencer Strider. The Braves ace suffered a UCL injury that required season-ending surgery. Strider underwent that procedure and will now miss the entire year.

So you won’t see Strider on the mound for Atlanta until at least Opening Day 2025.

The team announced the unfortunate update on Strider.

The Braves said, “RHP Spencer Strider yesterday underwent surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with internal brace.” Atlanta attributed Dr. Keith Meister of Arlington, Texas, with the surgery.

It’s a tough blow for the Braves, who were expected to contend for a World Series in 2024. They’ll now have to do so without their ace, who finished fourth in National League Cy Young Voting last year. That came after his rookie season, where he finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting behind teammate Michael Harris II.

Strider’s posted two full seasons in MLB and recorded over 200 strikeouts in both. That includes a 2023 season in which he led MLB in the category with a whopping 281.

That said, Braves fans won’t be able to see him again until 2025. It’s a difficult wrinkle the team will have to deal with now throughout the remainder of this season.

The MLB world had much to say about the news.
