The Denver Broncos appeared ready to move on from quarterback Russell Wilson this season. Just two seasons after acquiring the former Super Bowl champion, Wilson’s days in the Mile High seem numbered.

But despite that, head coach Sean Payton says the team hasn’t rendered a decision yet.

Payton addressed the media on Tuesday, two days after the Broncos’ season concluded. While he answered questions, Payton touched on the process behind the potential move. According to the head coach, they’ve yet to create a hard stance.

“When we get back and we begin this process of looking at our roster, where we select, there’s so many things that goes into a decision specific to the quarterback. Which is significant obviously. So it’s too early, at all,” Payton said.

Payton confirmed that he spent “a half-hour” with the quarterback and said to him, “Look, I don’t think this is gonna be a long, drawn-out process. But, it hasn’t been decided relative to what our plans are.”

Earlier this past month, it was reported that Wilson and the Broncos were steering towards a split. The Broncos were rumored to have inquired about Wilson’s contract with the team, a mega-deal that the team signed after acquiring him in a trade from Seattle.

This is certainly one of the louder cases of “buyer’s remorse” that we’ve seen in professional sports, but here we are.
