St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson is still an attractive trade piece, apparently.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported this week that several teams have called the Cardinals on the former top outfield prospect. And one of those teams has been identified.
The Toronto Blue Jays have called the Cardinals on the switch-hitting Carlson. MLB Trade Rumors wrote on the Jays’ interest in the 25-year-old Carlson.
“The Cardinals have received trade inquiries on switch-hitting outfielder Dylan Carlson from multiple clubs,” MLB Trade Rumors wrote. “With the Blue Jays being identified as one of them.”
Carlson has three years of club control left on his contract, so he’ll be arbitration-eligible this coming season. The trick for the Cardinals is that they are in serious need of pitching depth. They have a great amount of position players, as MLBTR wrote, so the team may need to flip some of them for a few hurlers. This may wind up being the case here.
Though it would be interesting to see what the Cardinals will get, it’s arguable that Toronto has the same pitching issues that the Cards have. While they boast a rotation with familiar names, they could no doubt be better. So it’ll be interesting to see if the two sides can configure a deal.
