The Indianapolis Colts expressed last week that they wanted to keep star wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in town. It turns out that the team will be doing that after all.

On Tuesday, the NFL’s franchise tag deadline will expire. Before the final lap was completed, the Colts made sure to keep their guy in Indianapolis. The Colts will use the franchise tag on their star receiver, Pittman Jr.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Tuesday evening.

“Colts officially are placing their franchise tag on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who had a career-high 109 receptions and 1,152 yards this past season,” Schefter said. Schefter reported the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

The Colts drafted Pittman out of USC in the 2020 NFL Draft with the 34th overall pick. Since then, Pittman has performed well. He has 336 career receptions for 3,362 receiving yards. His 10.9 yards per reception is a quality mark, and so are his 15 receiving touchdowns. Last season was Pittman’s best as a pro, as he flourished despite fluid quarterback play.

He will no doubt be a reliable piece for Anthony Richardson, who hopes to rebound after a decent start to his NFL career under center for the Colts.

Now it’s time to see what else the Colts will do to try and improve their team.
