The Los Angeles Dodgers had the most notable offseason of any Major League Baseball club. The Dodgers signed superstar Shohei Ohtani and prized Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto to long-term contracts. Los Angeles made magic happen, and they want to win another World Series. Amid the hysteria, there’s one question that the Dodgers and their fans want to solve: What’s going on with Clayton Kershaw?

Kershaw revealed he was undergoing shoulder surgery following a brief stint in the National League Division Series. He’s technically a free agent right now, and most expect him to either re-sign with the Dodgers or join the Texas Rangers. The Rangers are from Kershaw’s home state of Texas and won the World Series this past season.

What Kershaw will do remains to be determined. Thus far, the Dodgers and the Rangers have no leads on how to capture the future Hall of Famer. Los Angeles won’t close the door on a Kershaw return, though.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes addressed the media this weekend. During that address, Kershaw and his future with the team emerged as a talking point.

Longtime Dodgers reporter Fabian Ardaya said, “Brandon Gomes said the door is still open for the Dodgers to bring back Clayton Kershaw even after some of the rotation additions this winter.” Ardaya posted the quote on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

The fact that the Dodgers haven’t moved on makes sense. If anybody would know first that Kershaw decided to play for anyone else, it probably will be LA. The Dodgers are the only team he’s ever known. Seeing him with another uniform could be a jarring experience, but one that may soon become a reality if he opts to play with the reigning World Champion Rangers.
