The Diamondbacks fell short of the World Series title in 2023, but what manager Torey Lovullo did to that club shouldn’t be ignored. Even if he was snubbed for the most prestigious honor at the position.
Arizona veteran third baseman Evan Longoria took to social media to reveal his disdain for his skipper being left off the nominations.
“Whoever votes for Manager of the Year missed big on this one … and how?,” Longoria wrote on Instagram. “This is the [National League Manager of the Year] and it really shouldn’t even be close. What a joke.”

Longoria then added a hashtag: baseballwritersassociationofamerica
Lovullo led the Diamondbacks to the Fall Classic just two seasons after a 110-loss season in 2021. The team’s young core featuring Corbin Carroll, Zac Gallen and Gabriel Moreno were part of what made the team give the Rangers a slight run for their money at the beginning of the big-staged game.
The team also battled through the wild-card series and a sensational NLDS run, sweeping the heavily-favored Los Angeles Dodgers in two games to advance to the championship series.
The manager of the year is voted by the Baseball Writers Association of America and while it’s based on a weighted points system, the submissions do take place prior to the postseason.
The Diamondbacks finished the regular season with an 84-78 record, second in the NL West.
The three finalists for National League Manager of the Year are Skip Schumaker (Miami Marlins), Craig Counsell (Milwaukee Brewers), and Brian Snitker (Atlanta Braves).
