The New York Jets released veteran running back Dalvin Cook on Tuesday. Cook and the Jets reportedly came to a “mutual agreement” to part ways after a disappointing 2023 run.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news of Cook’s departure.
“Four-time Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook and the Jets have mutually agreed to part ways,” Pelissero posted. He made the post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. He continued to say the decision was made to allow “Cook the opportunity to play for a playoff team.”

Cook disappointed in New York this season. In 15 games, Cook rushed for just 214 yards on only 67 carries. He posted a meager 3.2 yards per attempt and ended his tenure at the Meadowlands with zero rushing touchdowns.
Jets running back Breece Hall stood out yet again, even after the team notably signed Cook in the offseason. So it turned out that if the Jets were merely content with their running back room, they probably would have endured the same disappointing fate they wound up with anyway.
There’s no telling if a team will be willing to take Cook on. Based on his production this season, he took a significant step back from the player he used to be. So it will be interesting to see if a market even emerges for him.
