LSU baseball pencil Credit: Matt Moscano on X

College baseball has often shown its unserious side. On Thursday, that happened again in a very humorous way.

Louisiana State took the field on Thursday to begin weekend action against Northern Illinois. The early battle for LSU hasn’t proved difficult, as they lead 10-2 at the moment heading into the final inning. But they did trail early on.

Down 1-0, Tigers designated hitter Hayden Travinski stepped to the plate. Only, he did so without a normal bat. Instead, Travinski walked up with a bat that resembled a No. 2 pencil.

Matt Moscona brought attention to this hilarious moment. Hilariously, Moscana also tagged Ticonderoga, the preeminent pencil company.

Believe it or not, this is not the first time this style of bat has been trotted out. Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott brought out the bat during Major League Baseball’s 2023 Little League Classic. It was a hit, and at the time, plenty had something to say about it.

When Travinski followed in Stott’s footsteps, some hilarity also broke out. And LSU fans were also happy to see it.

“First the ‘stache. Then the CWS performance. Now this,” one LSU fan posted, including a GIF of a goat.

Then, another observer wanted to real question to be asked.

“Does he have a second one on hand? Always suggested you bring two in case one breaks,” Glen West said.

The hilarious responses continued.
