The Carolina Panthers have had a dismal 2023 season. Their offense has been one of several issues the team has dealt with all season. After conceding playcalling duties earlier this season to his offensive coordinator, it looks like head coach Frank Reich wrangled them back on Wednesday.

The head coach had ceded playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, a former standout running back at the University of Georgia. But Reich, a former longtime NFL quarterback, pulled them back to his end.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the news of the change in Carolina on Wednesday.

“Panthers coach Frank Reich says he is taking back play-calling duties starting this week,” Pelissero posted on his X account.

Carolina has sputtered no matter who the playcaller is, so we’ll see if any significant change is made here. The Panthers have rookie quarterback Bryce Young, but haven’t really provided great infrastructure for him. His offensive line has been, at times, offensive, and his receivers haven’t gotten much separation. They haven’t helped Young out much, and it’s made a bad situation feel significantly worse.

Reich has felt the heat as well. You wonder if it will be one-and-done for him there with the team’s significant lack of on-field success this year. Even if it’s a bad situation, there are a lot of ways to make that look better than it does right now in Charlotte.
