Bubba Thompson Reds catch Credit: Bally Sports OH

The Cincinnati Reds celebrated victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. The Reds also did it in style, as outfielder Bubba Thompson made one of the best plays of the year.

Reds pitcher Brent Suter dealt a 1-2 pitch to White Sox catcher Martin Maldonado. Maldonado swung and connected on a pitch that looked to give Reds outfielders trouble. The ball floated and floated in the air towards the wall.

Thompson, meanwhile, had raced over towards the ball. Thompson then slid down to grab it and came away with it!

Thompson’s incredible catch caused a buzz online, and why wouldn’t it? Thompson had to fight through the sun – like Jarred Kelenic earlier Saturday – to make the grab and had to run all the way to the wall. Things could have ended sourly even while diving and sliding towards the wall. Fortunately for Thompson, they didn’t appear to, and he could come away with the huge grab anyway.

The Reds won 5-0 over the lowly White Sox, keeping them down in the cellar of the AL Central. Meanwhile, the Reds are out to a hot start in the NL Central by comparison. Cincinnati is 8-6 and two games behind first-place Milwaukee.

The MLB world had much to say about the incredible sliding catch that Bubba Thompson made. Many were left in awe.
