The world of college softball was thrown a curveball on Wednesday. One program pulled off a history-making upset and did it against the biggest school in their state.

The Southeast Missouri softball program will remember April 3, 2024, forever. SEMO pulled off a stunning upset of the nationally ranked Missouri softball team, defeating the 11th-ranked Tigers 1-0.

It’s the biggest win in program history! Literally.

The SEMO Softball account on X said, “SEMO takes down #11 Missouri, 1-0! The Redhawks get their biggest win in the program’s NCAA Division I era with a victory over the highest-ranked opponent ever faced.

Pitcher Paytience Holman had a brilliant showing in the history-making upset. “Paytience Holman retires her final 14 hitters to complete the shutout,” they said. Certainly, it was a memorable performance on a memorable day for the SEMO program.

The game’s only run came on a 2-out double by Brittany Affolter. Affolter’s go-ahead double came in the bottom of the 4th inning. That one run driven in was all they needed to make it happen.

This will be a tough one for Mizzou to take on the chin. But, SEMO can celebrate their history-making victory now. It’s not every day that you see a stunning upset quite like this.

The sports world had much to say about SEMO softball and their huge win over Mizzou.
