The Shohei Ohtani Sweepstakes will be the biggest storyline of the MLB free agency period. Everyone will, or at least should be in on the two-way superstar. Ohtani has defied incredible odds to become one of the best athletes in the world and, at his peak, is probably the best player in MLB today. Everyone wants to know where he’s going to go. Everybody also loves to predict where he’s going to go. One MLB.com reporter made a bold prediction on where he thinks Ohtani will land this offseason.

MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince published a series of bold predictions for the offseason. Castrovince led with the Ohtani prediction, and it’s a bold one alright. Castrovince predicted that Shohei would go to the Seattle Mariners.

“But you came here for bold, and I like to go galaxy brain with these predictionns,” Castrovince wrote. “Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto’s infamous comments this offseason that Seattle’s goal is to win 54% of the time over a 10-yaear span would lead one to believe the Mariners, as usual, won’t be major players in free agency. Exactly what you’d say to throw us off the scent!”

Castrovince noted that Ohtani rarely speaks, but does like the city of Seattle. That’s more than enough for Castrovince to make this bold prediction, and in fairness, it’s not too outlandish.

Whatever happens, expect it to be the top storyline this winter.
