South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler will forgo his final season of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, he announced Wednesday on his X account.

Rattler, who started his collegiate career with the Oklahoma Sooners before transferring to South Carolina, spent the past two seasons in Columbia.

In addition to the announcement, he released a statement thanking the coaches, fans, and program.

South Carolina went 5-7 on the season and likely will not make a bowl game. If there aren’t enough teams who won six games or more, the Gamecocks may be selected, but it’s unclear at this time if that will happen. Even if they are, it’s unlikely that Rattler would risk injury and partake in the game after declaring for the draft, so his career as a Gamecock is over.

In his two seasons at South Carolina, Rattler went 539-for-798 with 6,212 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes. He is fifth all-time in South Carolina passing yards and ninth all-time in touchdown passes. He also holds the Gamecock single-game record for touchdown passes in a game when he threw for six in South Carolina’s 63-38 bludgeoning of Tennessee in November 2022.

Rattler also threw 40 touchdown passes in his three seasons at Oklahoma, tying him for seventh in school history. He transferred after losing the starting job to Caleb Williams, who later transferred to USC where he won the 2022 Heisman Trophy.
