The Virginia Cavaliers softball team woke up Sunday and decided they wanted to make history. Virginia welcomed Clemson to Charlottesville for a weekend series as ACC play heats up. Sunday’s matchup went according to plan for Virginia, which held a 3-0 edge heading into the top of the seventh inning.
UVA went on to win the game with a strikeout to end the game. The Virginia fans, who might have been in need of something to cheer for after the men’s basketball team’s debacle, erupted with cheers after the Cavaliers recorded the final out.
What was so historic about this? Virginia softball never won a series against the Clemson softball team before this weekend! So in defeating the Tigers, UVA celebrated a historic series victory.
Senior hurler Madison Harris’ final strike drew significant attention after UVA Softball posted the highlight clip.

Clemson still stands as one of the best teams in the ACC this softball season even after the loss. Virginia has played near-.500 ball this season, which explains all the hubbub around their upset win. Everyone has looked up at Virginia Tech this year, as the Hokies have set the early pace in the ACC.
