The NFL season is coming to a close, but the animosity between the San Diego Chargers and All-Pro free safety Eric Weddle is just heating up. A week after being fined $10,000 for watching his daughter perform at halftime, the Chargers placed Weddle on injured reserve for the final game of the season and informed him there was no more room left on the plane for him to make the trip to Denver.

Weddle is not happy, and his agent is letting us all know about it.

It should be noted it is not uncommon for injured players to not travel with the team in the NFL. Players on injured reserve are routinely left off the traveling party list by some NFL franchises, so the Chargers not having a spot for Weddle is not as absurd as you might think. Also, agents will say whatever they can to spin things in favor of their players. That said, the circumstances leading up to this apparent blowup are striking and makes it look as though this is no coincidence.

This definitely should add some fire to the discussion though, as Weddle and the Chargers have been appearing to go separate ways for a while, and we’re not talking about the Chargers potentially moving to Los Angeles. As noted by the San Diego Union Tribune, the two sides have not been able to come together in the spring or summer about contract negotiations. Maybe Weddle saw the writing on the wall, which is why he decided enough was enough and he was going to step out to watch his daughter perform at halftime. Who knows, but this looks to be ending in a messy divorce.
