As the NCAA Tournament kicks off this week, many college kids will be performing on the sport’s biggest stage. But one player can hardly be called a “kid” at all.

Charleston guard Dalton Bolon is in his seventh year of college after he redshirted one season, received an extra year as a medical redshirt and received one more season of eligibility from the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

And it’s safe to say his teammates acknowledge his age.

“They just call me ‘Old Man,’” Bolon said according to Fox News. “They say I’m like 30. Really? I’m young for my age.”

Bolon has been the subject of many jokes from his teammates as a result of his age, like when they make fun of him for wearing his “dad shoes” to help with his sore foot.

“I don’t care what anybody says,” Bolon said. “They see grandpas wearing these things. Like, grandpas are the smartest people on the earth. I don’t know why people don’t take their advice more often. These are so comfortable.”

After seven years of eligibility, Bolon will finally have to move on from the game following this season. But he would love to try to find an eighth year if he could.

“Looking for an eighth (year),” Bolon said Wednesday. “If there’s a way I can get an eighth, if you people could tell me how, that would be great.”
