New Jersey City University pulls of a miracle in college basketball.

Possibly the craziest finish of the 2022-23 college basketball season took place at the Division III level on Wednesday night in Jersey City, NJ.

The New Jersey City University Gothic Knights trailed the No. 23 Rowan University Profs 71-67 with 5.2 seconds remaining. The Gothic Knights needed a miracle, and they got it.

New Jersey City’s Ryan Savoy caught an inbound pass and smoothly drained a turnaround corner three-pointer to make it a one-point game with 2.8 seconds remaining.

On the ensuing play, Rowan’s inbound pass was deflected, and New Jersey City’s Jason Battle ran the ball down before throwing up a deep desperation three. He banked it in for an amazing buzzer-beating 73-71 win.

The unbelievable, chaotic sequence also featured a great play-by-play call from NJCU announcer Tim Moore.

D-III onions! What an absolutely ridiculous sequence.

Rowan entered the game with a 15-0 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), and that unbeaten mark falls in heartbreaking fashion. It’s particularly unfortunate that the one loss comes in viral video fashion.

As for New Jersey City, that will certainly go down as a legendary win.

We’re not in March yet, but the madness is already very strong- even at the D-III level.
