The UC Regents approved a move for the UCLA Bruins to go to the Big Ten on Wednesday.
The move is a big one in the world of college sports and will send UCLA along with rival USC into the Big Ten Conference soon. Though UCLA and USC were pillars of the Pac-12 Conference, that simply won’t matter for much longer.
But life goes on at UCLA anyway. The Bruins men’s basketball team has played extremely well this season. They’re 9-2 and though they lost to Illinois and Baylor, they have otherwise been strong.
The Bruins had one of their best performances to date Wednesday on the road. Fittingly, it was against a future Big Ten opponent in Maryland. The Bruins drubbed the Terrapins in a 27-point rout, 87-60.
After the game was over, head coach Mick Cronin was asked to comment on the approved move to the Big Ten. Cronin spoke rather bluntly about the move. He said, via Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times, “Yeah, I knew that was coming. You’ve got to understand, in California we like politics, we like to make everything pretty dramatic. The Big Ten thing’s been done for a while.”

Cronin continued and made a funny quip about airplanes. Cronin joked, “Look, the world has changed, you’ve got to embrace it and roll with it; they make nice planes for a reason.”

Cronin is certainly right to embrace this crazy, new world we live in, which will include UCLA and USC in the Big Ten.
