The UConn Huskies saw their Final Four streak come undone in shocking fashion on Saturday.

UConn fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Sweet 16. The Huskies had previously made every Final Four available to them since 2008. It’s the first time since 2007 that Storrs, Connecticut won’t be represented in the Final Four on the women’s side of things.

“Final from Seattle,” the UConn Women’s Basketball Twitter account solemnly posted.

UConn won the Big East regular-season and Tournament titles without star Paige Bueckers aboard this season. Bueckers tore her ACL in the off-season and the team rode along well enough without her until they couldn’t anymore.

Back in 2007, UConn made the Elite Eight before LSU shockingly trounced them. You would have to go to 1999 to find the last time that the Huskies hadn’t made it to the Elite Eight. That year, Iowa State pulled off a shocking win over a UConn team that featured Swin Cash and Sue Bird as freshmen.

So, it’s been a long time since we’ve had an Elite Eight without a UConn presence!

The CBB world reacted to the shocking news.

“My heart hurts,” Husky alum Lindsey Kane tweeted.

The UConn Alumni Twitter thanked the Huskies “for an amazing season.”

The University also thanked them, saying it was “a season to be incredibly proud of.”

“Tough loss, but a great season,” wrote Rachel Rooney.
