Several names are under consideration for the open Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator job. One big name emerged as an interview candidate on Monday.

According to reports, the Tide will interview Washington Huskies, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. The Huskies had the No. 2 offense in the country in 2022, averaging 516.2 yards per game. The Huskies also had the No. 7 scoring offense with 39.7 points per game.

Chris Fetters of 247Sports reported on Grubb and his looming meeting with Alabama.

Before Washington, he was at Fresno State from 2017-2021. He became their offensive coordinator in 2019 and held the job until 2021. As many know, Kalen DeBoer and the Bulldogs held a reputation for having high-flying offenses.

The only question with  Grubbs will be about his familiarity. He is not being really familiar with the SEC, especially when it comes to recruiting. But that hasn’t stopped Nick Saban before.

Several of Saban’s former offensive coordinators came from the West Coast. That includes both Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian. Both worked at USC and both were head coaches at one time at the program.

Saban has never been afraid to take chances when it came to hiring offensive coordinators. Most of them have moved on later to become NFL or college coaches.

This could be Grubbs’ chance to move to the big time if he decides to take the Alabama job. It’s a matter of whether he wants the position or not it it’s offered to him.
