It looks like the alleged violations under former head coach Herm Edwards are going to cost the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football team a chance to play in the postseason this year.

According to a report from college football insider Pete Thamel of ESPN, the Arizona State Sun Devils are expected to self-impose a bowl ban this year as a result of the allegations against the team.

“Sources: Arizona State is expected to self-impose a one-year bowl ban for the 2023 football season. The decision stems from the ongoing NCAA investigation for alleged violations that occurred under former coach Herm Edwards,” Thamel wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

“The investigation stems in part from a dossier of documents sent to the NCAA on May 31 of 2021 detailing repeated and gratuitous recruiting violations, including multiple instances of ignoring restrictions implemented during COVID-19 recruiting dead period,” Thamel said in a follow-up tweet. “The Notice of Allegations in the case has not yet been sent out. ASU’s decision to self-impose is essentially an acknowledgement of the preponderance of evidence.”

It’s pretty major news in the college football world, and it led to plenty of reactions on social media.

It appears that this is an attempt to put the allegations behind them.
