The NCAA Transfer Portal has had some crazy energy to it, but it got even wilder on Thursday.

A 29-year-old has hit the portal. Yes, Austin Aune of North Texas entered the NCAA’s transfer portal on Thursday according to On3 Sports. Aune is 29 years old and was a Class of 2012 recruit!

On3 Sports tweeted the news on Thursday. “North Texas QB Austin Aune has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per Matt Zenitz”

Aune has lived a fascinating life since he originally committed to TCU in 2011. He was selected in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees. Aune was with the organization for several years before he suited up for Arkansas in 2018. But things didn’t work out there, so he transferred to North Texas.

Since then, Aune has played well for the Mean Green. He had his best season yet in 2022. In 14 games, he threw for 3,547 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Now, he will transfer to see what’s next for him.

Reactions poured out after news of Aune’s transfer came out. Nick Simon of DK Nation tweeted a fun fact: “This man was in the same recruiting class as Jameis Winston.” And he was!

Popular Twitter account Trill Withers tweeted, “Jokes on y’all when he come out an astronaut AND a Davey O’Brien senior award winner.”

Former Texas A&M Aggie-turned-coach Jay Arnold joked around, as he tweeted, “Actually like that there is a college football player older than me, gives me hope that I still have time.”

One Georgia football fan wanted to know why everyone joked about 25-year-old Stetson Bennett but didn’t hear a peep about Aune.

User Memphis Spence, the programming director for SportsRadioAmerica, was particularly flabbergasted. “This man still has eligibility??!!”

Several on Twitter also begged Aune to “get a job,” so take that for what you will.
