On Saturday afternoon, Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel had a strong performance to help lead his team over the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry. And it sounds like he caught the attention of Oklahoma Sooners legend Baker Mayfield.

In the 34-30 win over the Longhorns, Dillon Gabriel went 23 for 38 through the air for 285 yards and a touchdown while adding 14 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown on the ground. And Baker Mayfield had some pretty strong and clear praise for the current Oklahoma quarterback.

“Gutsy. I think he’s tough as nails. A gutsy guy,” Baker Mayfield told Sooner Scoop on the field after the game. “Just how cool, calm, collected he was on the last drive when the stadium is about as loud as it could be, he drives them right down the field and makes it look easy. Unreal. That was awesome.”

Gabriel led a gutsy game-winning drive to help lift the Sooners over the Longhorns with a late-game touchdown with just a single second left on the clock.

The win improves Oklahoma’s overall record to 6-0 on the season and puts the team right into the thick of the College Football Playoff conversation as the season progresses.
