The Arkansas Razorbacks have brought back former head coach Bobby Petrino to serve as the team’s offensive coordinator. But not everyone is happy about the move after Petrino was fired nearly a decade ago for having an affair with a former Arkansas volleyball player who he had hired as a member of the football staff.
During a recent press conference, Bobby Petrino reacted to the criticism that he has received from some fans who don’t seem to think that he deserves a second chance to re-join the team.
“I’m kind of on the — not really sure what words to use on it — but my beliefs are that it’s OK for people to disagree, have different thoughts, different opinions,” Petrino said according to On3. “I grew up where this is the United States of America. Everybody can have their own thoughts, their own religion and you know what, that’s OK.”
“I think that’s just one of the greatest things about a football team. Guys come from everywhere. … I don’t have any ill feelings toward anybody that disagrees. I just wish it was that for everybody,” Petrino continued.
Whether or not fans think he deserves it, Petrino is getting his second chance. We’ll have to see how he performs as a result.
