Bobby Petrino

Former Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bobby Petrino is back with the team as the offensive coordinator under Sam Pittman. This comes after he was fired from the team more than a decade ago for a rather embarrassing reason. But SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is willing to move on toward the future.

During a recent press conference, Greg Sankey was asked about the return of Bobby Petrino, and he said that while there is history, he is willing to leave it in the past. He also points out that Petrino has actually been back in the league for a year already as he spent the 2023 season as the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher.

“It’s interesting. Nobody asked me about him being back in the league when he was announced as the new offensive coordinator at Texas A&M last year, so he’s been back in the league,” Sankey said. “There’s history, but I consider that to be history.

“I had the opportunity to work with Bobby when he was the head coach at the University of Arkansas. Obviously, things changed. He’s been back for a year. By all accounts, did well in his work at Texas A&M, and I look forward to saying hello to him next time I’m in Fayetteville.”

Petrino was fired in 2012 after he was involved in a motorcycle accident with former Razorbacks volleyball player Jessica Dorrell, who he hired to his staff. The accident led to the revelation that he was having an affair with Dorrell, ultimately leading to his termination.
