Brett Favre said he’s not surprised at all by Deion Sanders’ instant success at turning the Colorado Buffaloes from a joke into a contender.
In fact, Favre had big plans for Sanders before he ever accepted the job at Colorado … and even before he coached at Jackson State.
The Hall of Fame quarterback told TMZ Sports that he wanted Sanders for the head coaching role at Favre’s alma mater, Southern Miss. That was Favre’s dream, anyway, in 2020, after Golden Eagles head coach Jay Hopson resigned early in the season.
Favre wanted Sanders, and recruited him for the role, to no avail. The two men were teammates on the 1991 Atlanta Falcons team. The deal might have been even sweeter given that Sanders’ son, Shedeur, a high school star at the time, was considering Southern Miss.
But Sanders went to Jackson State for a couple of seasons, along with his son, before both joined the Buffaloes this year. Shedeur Sanders is now being touted as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
So Favre is not at all surprised Coach Prime has been successful.
“I knew players would follow him,” Favre said. “Not to mention, we’d have gotten his son, who’s probably going to be one of the Heisman finalists this year.”
