While much of the conference realignment decisions across college sports are focused on college football, the Big 12 could potentially make a big move to bolster its men’s basketball dominance by adding the Gonzaga Bulldogs. And it sounds like those discussions have definitely taken place.

During a press conference this week, Big 12 conference commissioner Brett Yormark revealed that he has indeed had conversations with Gonzaga and that he “likes” the program, but that he also has other focuses as he plans the conference’s next round of conference expansion.

“I like Gonzaga,” Yormark said in a video shared by Heartland College Sports. “Obviously, great program. My focus right now is to see what happens to our industry. There’s a lot of moving parts. I continue to have conversations with Gonzaga, but I think, as I prioritize what our next move might be in expansion, there’s other things right now that I’m focused on.”

Yormark has made it quite clear that the Big 12 plans to continue seeking expansion in the coming years. And based on these comments, it sure sounds like Gonzaga could be one of those additions in the near future – but the conference just might make some other moves first.
