Auburn Tigers linebacker Eugene Asante had a huge game against the Cal Bears Saturday night, recording 12 tackles.

But that wasn’t the biggest news of Asante’s night. That came when Asante explained how he played on the practice team last year when head coach Bryan Harsin was there.

“I played on the scout team last year,” Asante said. “That kind of thing fuels me, just being out there. Coach (Ron) Roberts, Coach (Josh) Aldridge, this staff giving me the opportunity to show what I can do, I’m just forever grateful to them.”

That news stopped everyone in their tracks. How was a player as good as Asante not starting last year?

Asante’s play earned him Co-SEC Defensive Player of the Week. But not everyone was happy for Asante after his big game.

Harsin’s daughter, Dayn, clapped back at his comments about her father putting him on the scout team last year with a Twitter post.

“Well, actually YOU are the one to ask my dad to be on scout team. don’t be lying now.”

As many remember, Auburn fired Harsin in the middle of the season last year and it was a bitter breakup, so it’s not surprising that his daughter would come to her father’s defense after his treatment by the school.

But this probably wasn’t the time nor the place to let her feelings be known and take away from Asante’s accomplishments.
