Utah Utes star quarterback Cam Rising has not yet played this season but was expected to return to the team’s lineup eventually to help bolster the offense. But it now looks like that’s not going to happen this season after all.

Following Utah’s 36-34 victory over the USC Trojans on Saturday night, Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham announced that star quarterback Cam Rising will not return this season and will miss the rest of the year.

Rising led the Utes to Pac-12 title in each of the past two seasons, but he has been unavailable since injuring his knee during the team’s 35-21 Rose Bowl loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Rising later revealed that the injury was quite severe, admitting that it was a torn meniscus, MPFL and MCL along with a torn ACL.

While Rising ultimately wanted to return to the field and play with his team, he also knows that he has to protect his body first and foremost.

“I’m trying to make sure I can be out there because nobody wants to be out there on the field grinding with those guys more than me,” Rising said. “But at the end of the day, it’s my body. My body has to recover.”

It’s not clear whether Rising will return next year for the team, but it would be his seventh season of college football.
