Desmond Howard, the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner, created headlines at the 2021 Heisman ceremony when he took a potshot at finalist C.J. Stroud, the quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the arch-rival to Howard’s Michigan Wolverines.

Howard and Stroud were back in New York City on Saturday night for the 2022 Heisman Trophy ceremony. Stroud finished third in the final voting that went to USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams, but he clearly had not forgotten Howard’s slight from the year prior:

“While being introduced at the Heisman Trophy ceremony, C.J. Stroud shook the hands of the first two Heisman winners on stage. He stopped at the third guy, who just so happened to be Desmond Howard,” Josh Poloha tweeted with the video.

The internet was quick to react to the diss.

“OSU fans’ biggest win of the season,” one fan wrote.

“You can be minding your own business across the country and that cursed town will find a way to remind you that you can’t ever truly leave,” said another.

“Oh my god, look at Robert Griffin III (standing 4th in line) face when he realizes that CJ just dissed Desmond! Hahahaha,” wrote another fan.

“Have I ever told you how big of a C.J. Stroud fan I am?” asked one fan.

“Desmond has proven to be unprofessional on that stage, proof being last year. Stroud did exactly what should’ve have been done and that is ignore that dude,” wrote one fan.

Stroud is next in action on New Year’s Eve when he plays Heisman finalist Stetson Bannett IV and the Georgia Bulldogs in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs.
