The Oklahoma Sooners won’t lose former running back-turned-coach DeMarco Murray to Ohio State after all.
While rumors circulated that Murray and the Buckeyes were linked to each other, Murray doesn’t plan to leave Norman. On3 reported on Wednesday that Murray will remain on the Oklahoma coaching staff.
Pete Nakos of On3 reported the news.
“Oklahoma RB coach DeMarco Murray is staying in Norman after being tied to the Ohio State opening,” On3 said. On3 posted the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

After OSU lost its running backs coach to rival Michigan, the Buckeyes needed a replacement. They reportedly pursued Murray, but obviously, that never came to fruition. So the Buckeyes’ search will proceed on.
Ohio State has assembled quite a team for 2024. They’re returning a lot of key pieces to the puzzle after three disappointing seasons in a row. Part of that disappointment obviously comes with three consecutive losses to rival Michigan. Also, the team hasn’t quite made it to their annual expectation of being a title contender. Ryan Day is hoping that changes with a busy offseason of retention and new coaches. Day of course hired Chip Kelly to help run his offense, getting him to leave his head coaching job at UCLA to come to Columbus.
Nevertheless, they still have an opening. It’s anyone’s guess at this point who Ohio State picks to fill it.
