Former Oklahoma and UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel is one of the top quarterbacks in the NCAA Transfer Portal. As it turns out, Gabriel may not have to wait long to find a new home. News emerged on Tuesday that Oregon is targeting Garbiel, who entered the transfer portal on Monday, as its next quarterback.

ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported that Gabriel will visit Oregon shortly.

“Sources just told me in the last hour that he’s expected to visit Oregon this week,” Thamel told ESPN’s Kelsey Riggs. “Oregon has jumped out as the favorite for Gabriel’s services. He’s obviously thrown for nearly 15,000 yards and 125 touchdown passes in his career. We’ll see if there’s another Hawaiin in Oregon; obviously, Marcus Mariota won the Heisman there.”

Oregon and head coach Dan Lanning is reportedly looking to replace Bo Nix, who is set to enter the NFL Draft after participating in next month’s Fiesta Bowl against Liberty. A Heisman finalist, Nix had the Ducks just one game shy of the College Football Playoff.

As for Gabriel, the 22-year-old has one year of eligibility remaining.

This will be his second transfer from a program. He transferred from UCF to Oklahoma after his head coach, Josh Heupel, left for Tennessee. Gabriel was on his way to becoming a first-round draft pick at UCF. He started 12 games as a true freshman in 2019 and threw for 3,653 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. In 2020, he followed that up with 3,570 yards, 32 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Gabriel missed his junior season in Orlando due to a season-ending injury. He later joined Jeff Lebby — now the head coach at Mississippi State — in Norman. During his first season with the Sooners, Gabriel threw for 3,168 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions. This season, he has improved his performance by throwing for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
