Fresno State staffer suspended for punching out window during win over San Jose State Spartans

Two Fresno State Bulldogs fans attending Saturday’s 17-10 win over the San Jose State Spartans got an unexpected surprise when they were showered by broken glass caused by a staffer punching out a coaching box window in frustration. Mercury News reporter Jesús Cano detailed the scene:

“Q2: Chevan Cordeiro’s long touchdown pass to Elijah Cooks gives SJSU the 10-7 lead. Fresno State’s coaches in the press box got so mad it happened, that they literally punched and broke the glass in the press box window. 15 seconds left,” Cano tweeted.

“Unsuspecting Bulldog fans seated below coaching booths were showered with glass after San Jose State scored late in first half. At least two fans received medical attention,” Gabe Camarillo of 1430 ESPN Fresno said.

The unnamed staffer has been indefinitely suspended.

“At this point, we’re trying to figure out what’s going on with all that transpired, but I can definitely tell you that the individual that acted in that way will be placed on administrative leave, effective immediately,” Fresno State athletic director Terry Tumey told The Fresno Bee. “We have to have some disciplinary action until we can figure out what transpired. But our biggest concern right now, quite honestly, is our fans and the young women, the child, and her mother.”

There’s no word yet if the staffer will miss Fresno State’s next game Saturday on the road against the New Mexico Lobos. The Bulldogs are now 2-4 after Saturday’s win.
