Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe has had quite a transformation throughout the season, going from getting benched for the team’s game against South Florida earlier this season to emerging as one of the top playmakers at the quarterback position in the entire country. And head coach Nick Saban understands just how vital his emergence has been for the team.

During a press conference this week, Nick Saban praised the way that Jalen Milroe responded to getting benched following the team’s loss to the Texas Longhorns.

“Sometimes you’ve got to have something bad happen to figure it all out,” Nick Saban said. “After the Texas game, when we took him out, it was a real thunderbolt or whatever you want to call it, that if you want to be our quarterback, you have to be our point guard. He’s done that, and as he’s gotten better, so has our team.”

Following his benching, Milroe has been playing with much more confidence and has led the Crimson Tide to victory in all of their remaining games and has them in position to face the Georgia Bulldogs with an SEC title and a potential trip to the College Football Playoff on the line. And Saban knows the team simply could not have done this without Milroe’s improvement.

“We wouldn’t be here without his transformation,” Saban said.

We’ll have to see how Milroe performs against the vaunted Georgia Bulldogs defense.
