When you think of those dominant Miami Hurricanes teams of the 1990s and early 2000s, you don’t necessarily think of a defensive end from the Pittsburgh area who played his college football at Akron. Rather, Jason Taylor is a name that’s associated with the Miami Dolphins. Though, both teams play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium.
After turning in his helmet for a headset following a 15-year NFL career, Taylor has found himself back in the city that turned him into a household name. After spending last season as a defensive analyst on Mario Cristobal’s staff, Taylor is reportedly receiving a promotion. Taylor looks set to become Miami’s defensive ends coach after Rod Wright left to take a job with the Houston Texans.

According to Barry Jackson, a veteran sports reporter for the Miami Herald, the expectation is that Tyalor will remain at Miami with an expanded role after he was reportedly linked to a job on the Dolphins staff. “Jason has liked working at UM, and Cristobal values him,” wrote Jackson.

Taylor may know a thing or two about getting after quarterbacks, as he recorded 139.5 sacks during his illustrious career. He’ll have an opportunity to work with some talented defensive linemen in Coral Gables, and be an asset on and off the field for Cristobal and his defensive coaching staff.
