The Texas A&M Aggies have not lived up to expectations after hiring head coach Jimbo Fisher as the team has not won more than nine games during his time leading the program. And even though he has an absolutely massive buyout, it sounds like the program is still willing to find the money to fire him if he doesn’t improve the program in a hurry.
Jimbo Fisher currently has a very hefty buyout of around $76 million, meaning that’s what Texas A&M would have to pay him in order to fire him. But according to a report from college football insider Bruce Feldman, that’s not going to be enough to save his job if things don’t improve.
“Texas A&M, I’m told, will find the money to get rid of him if he can’t get this thing going — and yes, it absolutely does matter to important folks down there that Texas has a chance to be a College Football Playoff team this year … and Steve Sarkisian has been on the job for half as long as Jimbo,” Feldman wrote for The Athletic this week.
The Aggies are currently 4-3 this season following a tough loss to the Tennessee Volunteers. It will be interesting to see whether or not he can get things turned around, or whether this will be his last season in College Station.
