Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord surprised many when he decided to transfer to Syracuse last month. He finally spoke about this decision, and it seems like it may not have been his plan entirely to enter the transfer portal in the first place.

McCord had a productive year at Ohio State, throwing for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns with only six interceptions. Unfortunately, he simply wasn’t able to win the big game when it mattered most for Ohio State, coming up short in their lone regular-season loss to Michigan.

McCord spoke to the media for the first time since transferring to Syracuse, saying that it was a “business decision” for Ohio State that initially led to him entering the portal.

“You guys know it just as well as I do, at the end of the day, the top level of college football and then especially onto the pros, it’s a business,” said McCord on a recent episode of The QB Room podcast. “At the end of the day, Ohio State had to make a business decision that they felt was best for them, and I had to do the same thing. And unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be for next year. But at the end of the day, I felt like I put together some solid games, had some good tape, so I was confident when I went in the portal, I would find a good home.”

This isn’t all that shocking, especially because of the backlash that McCord received for his play in the loss to Michigan.

However, Ohio State fans found out that things can certainly be worse than McCord at quarterback in their Cotton Bowl matchup against Missouri.

Both Lincoln Kieholtz and Devin Brown struggled heavily in that contest at quarterback, throwing for only a combined 106 yards in the matchup. The Buckeyes were only able to score three points in the loss.

Now McCord will look to make Syracuse a contender in the ACC, a task that he appears to be extremely excited about.

“Their recruiting pitch was, ‘Listen, we’re a quarterback away from being a serious contender in the ACC this year.’ I looked at the schedule and I saw it and I think it’s true,” McCord told Syracuse.com. “There’s definitely an opportunity for us to go out and win some games.”
