On Monday it was announced that Alabama planned on hiring former defensive coach Kevin Steele as their new defensive coordinator.

And while some Crimson Tide fans seem to be worried about the new hire, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has a message for Bama fans-relax.

“The GOAT just signed the No. 1 recruiting class with no coordinators,” the Ole Miss coach tweeted out Monday. “Relax, Alabama.”

Neither Tommy Rees nor Kevin Steele was on the radar for the offensive and defensive coordinator positions. Many thought that Nick Saban would hire more high-profile candidates for both positions, so it stunned some fans when Saban went with two unlikely candidates.

But most college football analysts think that both hires were good hires and that the Crimson Tide are in excellent hands.

Rees, who is 30, was the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame during their College Football Playoff run back in 2020, ironically, it was a loss against Alabama. When former head coach Brian Kelly left for LSU, he begged Rees to join him in Baton Rouge but he decided to stay in South Bend.

Rees is considered one of the hottest coordinators in the game today. As far as Steele goes, this is his third time coaching under Saban.

He along with former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, whom many thought would be the Tide’s new defensive coordinator, lead the Tide’s defense for many years when they were their most dominant back in the early Saban years.

It appears now, with these two hires, that Saban is trying to return his team back to the old days of Crimson Tide football of running the ball more and playing good defense.
