The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell to the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday evening, and it sounds like head coach Marcus Freeman is taking blame for the disappointing performance.

After the game, Marcus Freeman placed blame on himself and the coaching staff for failing to adequately prepare the team for the game.

“Obviously just disappointed in the performance, you know, we got to take ownership as a coaching staff first, right,” Freeman said postgame according to On3. “Our guys weren’t prepared for whatever reason, we got to take a deep dive and figure out what it was, you know, it’s, you can point your finger at any person, any specific unit, but the reality is, we better point to figure out ourselves and figure out what were the issues that lead to lack of execution.

“And so we obviously know we got to take care of the football. Can’t turn the ball over five times and expect to win.”

Notre Dame will have a chance to bounce back from this disappointing showing with a big-time matchup against the undefeated, top-10 ranked USC Trojans next weekend. We’ll have to see how they perform in that matchup after the loss they suffered this week.
