Just days after announcing that he had entered the transfer portal, Max Johnson has a new home.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, the former Texas A&M and LSU quarterback has committed to North Carolina.

A former three-star prospect, Johnson began his college career at LSU, throwing for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions as a sophomore in 2021. Following the arrival of Brian Kelly as the Tigers’ new head coach, he transferred to Texas A&M, but ultimately only started eight games over the course of two seasons with the Aggies.

In 2023, the son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson appeared in eight games, including five starts, completing 62.1 percent of his passes for 1,452 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. In heading to Chapel Hill, he’ll provide Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown with an experienced option to potentially replace current UNC star Drake Maye, who is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to 247Sports, Johnson ranks as the No. 8 quarterback currently in the transfer portal, with Kansas State’s Will Howard, Mississippi State’s Will Rogers and Miami (Fla.)’s Tyler Van Dyke is among the players at the position who have already announced their intent to transfer this offseason.

Shortly after Johnson’s decision to transfer to UNC was first announced, many took to social media to weigh in.
