Given that the college football season is in its infancy stages, calling a play the Catch of the Year likely seems a bit presumptuous. That said, it’s hard to imagine many catches being better than one made by Michigan State receiver Tyrell Henry on Friday night.
Leading Central Michigan 17-7 early in the fourth quarter, the Spartans faced a second-and-goal from the 10-yard line. Michigan State quarterback Noah Kim lobbed a pass to Henry in the end zone.
There was a lot of contact between Henry and Central Michigan defensive back De’Javion Stepney. Despite that, Henry made the catch, going up with one hand to secure the ball, pulling it toward his body.

Big Ten football fans didn’t get much of a look at Henry as a freshman in 2022. He played sparingly and most of what action he did get came on special teams. In fact, this touchdown reception was his first career catch. It was part of a game that ended up being a nice coming-out party for the sophomore receiver.

If Henry is capable of making catches like this, he’ll be a lot of fun to watch for the rest of his college career.
