The Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State Spartans will open another chapter in their iconic rivalry this weekend in Ann Arbor.

Taylor Lewan, a Michigan legend and current offensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans, is using the opportunity to send a message to Spartan fans looking to talk trash to him:

“The hate in my mentions from Michigan State fans warms my heart,” Lewan tweeted, before adding a “#goblue” hashtag.

Lewan went 1-4 against his rivals as a Michigan player between 2009 and 2013. The Tennessee Titans selected the two-time Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Lewan suffered a knee injury early in the 2022 season and will miss the entire campaign.

Trash talk has long been a part of the rivalry, like when former star and current Michigan coach Mike Hart referenced the Michigan State program as “little brother” in 2007.

Saturday’s meeting will be the 115th such occasion between the programs. The Spartans have won six of the last 10 in the series, however, they’re 22-point underdogs entering this year’s contest according to oddsmakers in Las Vegas.

Michigan State’s road game against No. 4 Michigan kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
