With the Alabama spring game in the rear view, head coach Nick Saban talked to the press recently about how his offense performed. Specifically, how they played under new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Also, on the minds of a lot of people was how new quarterbacks Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe looked.

Saban appeared very pleased by both quarterbacks.

“Offensively, I thought we were pretty consistent in terms of what we did,” said Saban following the 125-play scrimmage. “We moved the ball effectively and with balance, run and pass. Both quarterbacks played equally well. Both of them got opportunities, and both of them, I thought, did a nice job out there managing the game.”

The coach also seemed to be impressed with Rees running the offense too.

“Offense was great today,” he said. “Tommy does a great job with the players. Players like him. He’s taken our system and pretty much used our system that we use, added some things to it. I think the offensive line has done a good job. We’ve got a few more multiples in terms of how we can run the ball. Does a really good job with formations and how to use formations to create advantages for us on offense.

Some Tide fans were worried that Rees wouldn’t be up to the challenge of being the Alabama offensive coordinator. However, as of now, that doesn’t seem the case.

It’s quite apparent that so far, no one has taken the lead at starting quarterback yet. When Rees was hired, Nick Saban was looking for a more balanced attack this upcoming season than has been in the recent past and he may have found it.
